Yoga Challenge

Starting tomorrow I am participating in my own version of a yoga challenge. Thirty days straight of yoga. It is a pretty simple concept, all I need to do is practice yoga everyday. I really want to build up a routine before school starts again and life gets even crazier and I hope that carving out time for myself every night will help. Doing yoga consistently will be a challenge. I tend to lose interest in things fairly quickly.

Committing to thirty days of anything shouldn’t be hard but I’m not a very consistent person. I’m hoping that practicing yoga will help stretch me out, give me a we love for the mat and clear my mind. The goal for me is to do a minimum of twenty minutes a day and up to as long as I want to push my body. I will end up taking a few instructor led classes but the majority of what I will be doing is going to be at home.

I’ll check in a few times with some updates of how it’s going. I can’t wait to get everything started.

They say you can do anything for 30 days.

Spring is in the Air

This winter has flown by, if you can even call what we had winter, and while it isn’t over yet spring is on my mind. I love long days, cold beer and the sunshine. My body is craving the sunshine. While school has kept me busy (and poor) I always seem to have time to shop. This time I am just window shopping, although hopefully I will make the leap and buy something soon.

  1. Dooney and Bourke Florentine Satchel in Moss -  What a perfect spring bag. The colour, the shape and really just everything about this bag makes me love it. I use a Dooney and Bourke bag now and it is amazing. Good quality is always in season.
  2. Essie Nail Polish in Ole Caliente – Essie makes great polish and this colour is no different.
  3. ASOS Curve Strapless Floral Dress - I am a sucker for a strapless dress and lately I just haven’t been wearing any. This dress screams spring to me and I love the print.
  4. TOMS Ballet Flats – If you have ever worn a pair of Toms you know how comfy they are. I am eager to try out the ballet flats and even better that they come in leopard print.
  5. Amrita Singh Crystal Jitney Earrings - Amrita Singh makes gorgeous Indian inspired jewelry. Everything on her website is colourful and daring. I would love to be able to afford one of her gem pieces but for now these inspired earrings will have to do. Even better if you can find these on a flash sale website!
  6. Bicycle Glasses -  Sunshine and nice weather make me want to drink. Ill be damned if my vodka isn’t going to be in cute bicycle glasses.
  7. Kaia Naturals Bamboo Face Wipes – I received a sample of these Juicy Bamboo Face wipes in my Glymm Box and I fell in love. Sounds crazy, being that its only a face wipe, but honestly they are the best. They smell fresh, they took off every bit of makeup and they are organic and natural. What is not to love?
  8. Manduka PRO Yoga Mat- I want to do yoga more often. Right now I am hardly doing anything. A nice long yoga mat will make me want to do yoga, right?
  9. Apple Shuffle - The amount of iPods I have purchased is sickening, and yet when I go to use one I can never find any. I want a bright green shuffle full of awesome music to help motivate me to get my ass off the couch and go for a long walk. The bright green makes it infinitely cuter.
  10. Boscia BB Cream- BB Creams seem to be all the rage lately. As warm weather approaches I tend to use less foundation and more tinted moisturizer. I can’t wait to buy a BB cream and see what all they hype is about.

What is your must have spring item?

Dear Yoga

Dear yoga;

I know we’ve had a rough past together. Your deep stretching poses and mandatory self reflection usually scare the crap out of me. I’m always nervous of my fat ass swinging in the air during downward dog, not to mention the inevitable “oh so calm” fart.

Spending 90 minutes in a hot sweaty room flowing through sun salutations does my body good, even when I think I’m going to die. I can’t recall all the times I’ve stopped and started practicing. 90 minutes alone with my thoughts is daunting. How do I learn to listen to myself?

Yoga, I promise to flow by your side these next few months. I won’t skip class to watch How I Met Your Mother (although I’ll probably want to). I promise to not beat myself up when I can’t hold a pose or keep up with flow of class. Most importantly I need to connect with myself again. I want to be comfortable twisting and stretching my body in all kind of pretzel-like ways. I want the clarity of mind that practicing gives me.

I will see you in class, dear yoga. I’ll be the girl giving it her everything simply because she has nothing else to lose.

Fishbowl Pina Colada For The Weekend Win

Oh Monday, how did you show up so fast.  This weekend has flown by.  This weekend was full of major ups and downs.  Let the guilt flow because I broke my Eat In Challenge rules and went out with the family Friday night. Dinner was good, but it definitely makes me realize how much better it is to make dinner at home. I drank an entire fishbowl pina colada. Holy drunk.  I don’t even want to know how many calories were involved in the making of this creamy drink, but it was certainly worth it.

Fishbowl Pina Colada anyone?

Saturday was filled with sleep and a whole dash of crazy.  My sister was home for the weekend and she decided to get into it with me.  It ended up really upsetting me so I went for a drive and cleared my mind.  I have been finding lately that I am emotionally up and down.  I can be happy and laughing and then something just sets me up.  Stress does wicked things to the body.  My friend and I signed up for a yoga class that starts in April and it can not start soon enough.  I need to find ways to unwind and relax.  Between work, family and planning for school  it can get to be overwhelming. What do you do to stay calm?  On the plus side I made it to the gym Thursday morning! It felt really good to be awake and working out in the morning.  My body misses the feeling of being worked.  I am certainly looking forward to getting back in the swing of things at the gym.  I was pretty much the only fat person there.  I sucked it up and kept on going.  I even put on a swimming suit and did lane swimming for 45 minutes.  I felt so great!  I will be back in the gym again on Tuesday and hopefully a quick few km on Monday.

This week is all about continuing to keep on the gym train.  I want to see a loss on the scale and maintain a a healthy eating regime. My meals have been pretty balanced, but I have been having trouble with snacking.  I need to be more mindful of what I am eating while snacking.  Cheetos seem to get me everytime! I will throw them away.  This week I want to spend more time with Eric.  It seems we hardly get to see each other. Eric time is always good time.

Have a good week everyone!
